9th-10th July 2005 - During this weekend Dorchester celebrated the 700th anniversary of the granting
of the town charter with a weekend of performance, period music, drama and dance.
As part of the celebrations, Dorchester staged a unique
"For crying out loud" practice town crying record attempt. The Dorchester Town Crier has
applied to stage a Guinness town crying record attempt shortly and the event on 10th July was part of the
run up to creating a national record for Dorchester. In support of this attempt the Town Council
printed 1000 copies of the mass cry which was staged between a performance by the Wolfshead Bowmen and the afternoon concert.

700th Anniversary Cry
"OYEZ! OYEZ! OYEZ!"
And we still boast the court of the Tolpuddle Martyrs;
We've great monuments most splendid, both Roman and Celtic
And with the Prince's bold Poundbury - we're truly majestic.
With Hardy and Barnes our tradition is wordy,
But with Jack Ketch and Jeffreys its also quite bloody...
Today we look forward to a future exciting,
This three in one town is truly delighting.
For its Durnovaria, Casterbridge and dear old Dorchester
It's ancient yet modern - yes its one of the bester.
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN
